Dr. Norman A. Zaffater, Jr., MD

Norman A. Zaffater, Jr., MD, offers comprehensive family eye care and enjoys helping restore peoples’ vision with surgery. He stated, “There is nothing like giving someone their sight back. I feel blessed that God chose this path for me and I continually seek His guidance.”

Dr. Zaffater has performed more than 30,000 eye surgeries for residents of Shreveport, Bossier and the Ark-La-Tex. He is highly experienced in the latest techniques of laser vision correction, including all laser custom LASIK, SMILE and PRK. Dr. Zaffater is one of the few eye surgeons in Louisiana to offer the SMILE Laser Vision Correction procedure. He is certified on multiple laser systems and trained to correct all forms of refractive errors, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and reading vision. Dr. Zaffater was one of the first surgeons in Louisiana to be certified on the LenSx laser for cataract surgery. He has expertise in cataract removal with the use of various lens implants, including implants that correct distance, intermediate and reading vision. He is highly skilled in eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) for both cosmetic and medical reasons. Dr. Zaffater is trained in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma, diabetic eye conditions and certain retinal abnormalities.

As a member of the Willis-Knighton Physician Network, Dr. Zaffater performs LASIK, SMILE and PRK procedures at WK Eye Institute Refractive Surgery Center in Shreveport. He performs other surgical procedures at WK Bossier Medical Pavilion and WK Eye Institute in Shreveport.

A native of the Shreveport area, Dr. Zaffater the eye doctor is the son of Dr. Norman Zaffater, Sr., who was an expert in the field of orthodontics. After graduating from Loyola College Prep, Dr. Zaffater attended LSU Baton Rouge where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology. Dr. Zaffater went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine from LSU Medical Center in New Orleans. Returning to Shreveport, Dr. Zaffater completed his ophthalmology residency at the local LSU Medical Center in 1997. He is board certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology. His memberships include American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and Louisiana State Medical Society.

Dr. Zaffater is the son of Norman and Carol Zaffater and has a large extended family. He has been married to his wife, Barbara, since 2001 and has two sons, Norman “Anthony” Zaffater, III and John Paul. In his off time, he enjoys playing in his band, Rogers and Zaffater, at local venues and private parties. He also loves spending time with his family going to the lake, the beach and the mountains. He is a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in and serves as Eucharistic minister.
